Seminar Description:
The U. S. Attorney's Office for the
District of South Carolina and other state,
local and federal entities will host a seminar on November 16, 2011, to
educate
both the medical community and the law enforcement community about the
perils of prescription drug abuse in South Carolina. The goal of the
Summit is
to address the exponential growth of prescription drug abuse and addiction and
to begin working out solutions. The Summit will address all aspects of
prescription
drug abuse, from the standpoint of public policy, health and medicine,
pharmacologic
impact, and the law, and will bring together key stakeholders for a frank
exploration
of the problems and solutions to these problems. The Summit is designed to
reflect
the new ONDCP action plan for addressing prescription drug diversion and abuse,
which includes a four-pronged approach.
1. Education of
prescribers, parents, and patients on the problems both the
medical community and law enforcement are facing
2. Address
prescription drug monitoring with insurance companies, prescribers,
and government regulators and enforcers, and what these
entities can do to
undermine abuses
3. Education as to proper disposal, and what is available
4. Train law
enforcement on pill mills, doctor shopping, rogue practices -
investigation
Who Should Attend:
Doctors, health care administrators,
nurses, physician's
assistants, therapists, insurers, veterinarians, clinicians, pharmaceutical
representatives
and wholesalers, other members of the medical community, investigators for
medical,
dental, nursing, pharmacy and veterinarian boards, law enforcement officers,
investigators
and regulators, social workers, counselors and others who wish to further their
knowledge
about prescription drug abuse.

Founded in 1946, the South Carolina Obstetrical and Gynecological Society continues to promote interaction among physicians in Obstetrics and Gynecology throughout South Carolina.
Goals and Objectives
The goal of the South
Carolina Obstetrical and Gynecological Society is the improvement of health care delivery,
education and research in obstetrics and gynecology through patient care. The objectives
of the Society are to:
Organization
The Society is governed by an Executive Committee under
the guidance of the society's Constitution and By-laws. The
Executive Committee includes the President, President-Elect, Secretary-Treasurer, and two
Past-Presidents. The Executive Committee is charged with the general direction and
promotion of the Societys affairs. Society members are encouraged to communicate
with the Executive Committee. It is through this interaction that the needs and interests
of the Societys membership are fulfilled.
Meetings
The annual meeting of the Society is held
in the fall of each year at a site that enhances the continued growth of the groups
cohesiveness. The major theme of the meeting is continuing education for the
obstetrician/gynecologist. Various topics are presented by means of lectures by invited
guest speakers, society members, and residents from the educational training programs
throughout the state. Members are encouraged to suggest ideas for educational programs.
The annual business meeting, including the election of officers is also held at the fall
meeting.
