Seminar Description:
The U. S. Attorney's Office for the District of South Carolina and other state,
local and federal entities will  host a seminar on November 16, 2011, to educate
both the medical community and the law enforcement community about the
perils of prescription drug abuse in South Carolina.  The goal of the Summit is
to address the exponential growth of prescription drug abuse and addiction and
to begin working out solutions.  The Summit will address all aspects of prescription
drug abuse, from the standpoint of public policy, health and medicine, pharmacologic
impact, and the law, and will bring together key stakeholders for a frank exploration
of the problems and solutions to these problems.  The Summit is designed to reflect
the new ONDCP action plan for addressing prescription drug diversion and abuse,
which includes a four-pronged approach.

1.  Education of prescribers, parents, and patients on the problems both the
medical community and law enforcement are facing

2.  Address prescription drug monitoring with insurance companies, prescribers,
and government regulators and enforcers, and what these entities can do to
     undermine abuses

3.  Education as to proper disposal, and what is available

4.  Train law enforcement on pill mills, doctor shopping, rogue practices -
     investigation

Who Should Attend:  Doctors, health care administrators, nurses, physician's
assistants, therapists, insurers, veterinarians, clinicians, pharmaceutical representatives
and wholesalers, other members of the medical community, investigators for medical,
dental, nursing, pharmacy and veterinarian boards, law enforcement officers, investigators
and regulators, social workers, counselors and others who wish to further their knowledge
about prescription drug abuse.

Registration Fee:  $50.00 per person

Founded in 1946, the South Carolina Obstetrical and Gynecological Society continues to promote interaction among physicians in Obstetrics and Gynecology throughout South Carolina.

Goals and Objectives
The goal of the South Carolina Obstetrical and Gynecological Society is the improvement of health care delivery, education and research in obstetrics and gynecology through patient care. The objectives of the Society are to:

  • Promote the concept of patient care

  • Provide a forum for discussion of management problems

  • Provide a mechanism for exchange of information

  • Interact with other organizations in accomplishing its goals

  • Organization
The Society is governed by an Executive Committee under the guidance of the society's Constitution and By-laws. The Executive Committee includes the President, President-Elect, Secretary-Treasurer, and two Past-Presidents. The Executive Committee is charged with the general direction and promotion of the Society’s affairs. Society members are encouraged to communicate with the Executive Committee. It is through this interaction that the needs and interests of the Society’s membership are fulfilled.

    Meetings
The annual meeting of the Society is held in the fall of each year at a site that enhances the continued growth of the group’s cohesiveness. The major theme of the meeting is continuing education for the obstetrician/gynecologist. Various topics are presented by means of lectures by invited guest speakers, society members, and residents from the educational training programs throughout the state. Members are encouraged to suggest ideas for educational programs. The annual business meeting, including the election of officers is also held at the fall meeting.
